A St Pierre’s Sushi & Bento Bowl sit-down restaurant has just opened only a short walk from Airways Motel.  Only 800 metres or an easy 8-minute walk away, this is great news for guests who want to walk to a restaurant.  For those who choose to drive, there is plenty of parking as well as a drive through option. Being an Airport Motel, we offer the Airways Motel Airport Shuttle. Here’s how it works, and how it doesn’t work sometimes!! Christchurch International Airport gives us “exclusive access” and while there are financial implications it’s better than the public 2 minute drop off/pick up option where there can be a rather long wait at peak times! Our “exclusive access” is limited to the rotary outside doors 1 & 2. There are 3 other rotaries at the airport, which can be confusing, but our “exclusive access” rotary is the one outside doors 1 & 2. We started at Airways Motel in March 2020 but it had been a motel since 1998 and had had several different owners over the years. We took over what the previous owners had left, but we had a lot of tweaking to do using our 12 years of motel industry experience. There was upgrading to do keep up with the changing times! The first thing we worked on was the logo, it had to change. Airways Motel dates back some 25 years and while we have not met anyone who stayed 25 years ago, we have a current guest who has stayed here over at least the past 20 or so! Jeff and Naomi started here on 6 March, 2020, 2 weeks before the first covid lockdown. While the covid period was not great for business, it meant we had time on our hands, and nowhere to go.
